John is an experienced media commentator. He has appeared on primetime BBC television discussing the history of bankruptcy and his work has been cited in the broadsheet newspapers on a number of occasions.

Television

John was interviewed by Dominic Littlewood for the peak time BBC One television programme, "The One Show" on the 14th July 2008. The piece, on bankruptcy history, bankruptcy policy and debtor treatment was aired on 2nd September 2008 at 7.00pm on BBC One.

John has also appeared on Sky Television. He was invited to appear on Sky’s LegalTV, Called to the Bar programme for a topical forum on bankruptcy. (20/03/06: 2.00pm-3.00pm).

His research has been cited in the newspapers and some weekly periodicals. The BCS 2005 was cited in:

and more recently in the Spectator (11/02/09) in an article entitled 'A formula for fecklessness' by Ross Clark. John's response letter 'Role of the bankruptcy law' appeared in the subsequent edition (Spectator, 21 February 2009). The Times featured the Muir Hunter Museum of Bankruptcy on the 13th July 2007 in the Business Diary column. The museum also featured in Recovery, the journal of the Association of Business Recovery Professionals (R3) in the Winter 2007 edition, Mortgage Finance Gazette in August 2007, Insolvency Intelligence (September/October 2007, vol.20, no.8), and the Times on 27th October 2008.

Quotes

The BCS 2005 also led to telephone interviews with Reuters (03/02/06) and the BBCs Jeremy Monblat (03/03/06). The Evening Standard requested (04/08/06) and used two quotes in relation to the July 2006 quarterly personal insolvency statistics. Bloomberg requested (03/05/07) and used a quote in relation to the May 2007 quarterly insolvency statistics. Bloomberg requested (02/05/08) and used a quote in relation to the 1st quarter insolvency statistics of 2008.
